Here are the latest industry statistics and reports. According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodeling Market Index (RMI), remodeling activity decreased significantly in the second quarter of 2006. The current market conditions index decreased from 48.1 in the first quarter of 2006 to 45.6 in the second quarter, and future expectations dropped from 48.9 to 43.5. The RMI for owner-occupied units fell from 53.8 to 49.0 for the same time period.

New residential sales of single-family houses in July 2006 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,072,000 units, according to the U. S. Commerce Department. This is 4.3 percent below the revised June rate of 1,120,000 units and 21.6 percent below the July 2005 estimate of 1,367,000.
